Hwuit (2022 - Dec. 2023)
Initially, most of the effort went into the design and modelisation of the rings, done mostly using Blender. This lead to the first drop in april 2022 of two rings named “spiky” and “wavy” ring. And eventually, to a second drop in october 2022 of the “becky” ring + chain.
In January 2023, Miles Barela joined the team and many new ideas and ambitions emerged.
Determined to make colourfull rings in any colour possible from our homes, we set out on a quest to find the perfect formula to make resistant plastic rings, that were non toxic to the skin.
We started using basic 3d printed resin, primer, paint and coating. All of this lead to a very brittle and structurally weak ring that would break after a few weeks of wearing. Those that didnt break would eventually wear of and lose their color... Eventually, a reddit post of someone claiming to have used acrylic paint in his resin gave us hope. Despite the entire internet telling us that it was not possible, we decided to give it a try.
The ideal of being able to produce 8 rings every few hours for minimal cost, without having to go through multiple layers of hand painting was too tempting to not try.
Through multiple months of trial and error, strong intoxication from resin fumes and a very limited budget, we were finally able to figure out a formula that would print skin safe shock resistant rings in any color. The way we did it was to use clear Siraya Tech Blu-Tough Resin with liquid acrylic paint in a 200/1 ratio.
This enabled us to keep the resin’s properties whilst giving the rings an opaque visual. We were satisfied.
In December 2023, we released our final product the “big H” scarf, marking the last time Hwuit has made a public appearance.
